About Me

I have always been fascinated with the “unseen” aspect of life. Some of the topics that I am most interested include the concepts of time and space, the connections being made between science and religion, the newly emerging viewpoints on consciousness, energy healing and spirituality, as well as what it means to be human it today’s fast-paced, globally-connected, and rapidly changing society.

I love discussing ideas, exploring new possibilities and engaging in conversations with new people.

Hey Tiff, I look forward to reading more. I’ll try and re-purpose some of our hours long conversations about life, death and everything in-between into a topic on your blog that can be discussed further.

Tiff: Surely you’ve read Joseph Campbell “Power of Myth”? How about “the Masks of God” or “Thou Art That?”

Some believe that this is time for revolution, we believe that this is a time of social and economic e-volution. With the current social environment and mentality in the US, as an economic system it the time for Capitalism to evolve to the 3Cs, Conscientious and Cooperative Capitalism.
PISA’s approach through impact investing aims to balance risk and return with social and environmental impact. We seek to deliver turnkey community-based solutions of a scale that donations cannot facilitate. In this way, we aim to harness the power of investments in profitable business models for societal good, and that is what attracts a myriad of investors from high-net-worth individuals and families to pension plans, corporations and foundations.
There are various types of investment mentalities “values-based investing” (VBI), “mission-based investing” (MBI), “program-related investing” (PRI), with yet another approach by social investors focusing on aligning investment activities with an area of personal interest. Approaches like “double- and triple-bottom-line-investing” explicitly give comparable prominence to financial and social/environmental objectives and “blended value investing” describes the combination of investment and philanthropy. Blended-value investment offers a range of risk-reward profiles and different types of social and environmental value creation while also seeking positive financial returns.

Low-Profit Limited Liability Company (L3C) are hybrid non-profit and for-profit enterprises and aims primarily to achieve social benefits with profit-making as a secondary goal. This structure unites investors of many types with various tolerances for risk and allocates expenses and income among them such that taxation occurs in the hands of the investor. L3Cs usually serve social purposes that have some economic viability but also face difficulty in attracting capital because of their high risk, low return model. In July 2010, the U.S. government established the $50 million (USD) Social Innovation Fund with the intent to engage a 3:1 public-private funds match to expand effective solutions in three key areas: economic opportunity, healthy futures, and youth development and school support. Hybrid investments generally refer to investments that do not exactly fit the true definition of classic investment vehicle. Quasi bonds would be such an example, an investment vehicle that has many of the characteristics of bonds, but not all.
“I think societies everywhere will come to the conclusion that an important part of the capitalist system is having a powerful social sector to address social issues, because government doesn’t have the resources.”
Sir Ronald Cohen, June 2010 Chairman, Social Investment Taskforce and considered by many to be the father of British venture capital Social Innovation Funding
